Free Knitting Pattern: Dolll Undies

As I mentioned in one of my recent blog posts, most of my dolls that were created here lately are mostly still undressed. I was busy designing and discarding doll patterns instead of knitting or sewing clothes for those poor naked dollies…

But since it became really cold outside lately – at least in the mornings, I knew the dolls wouldn’t be  patiently waiting any longer. So I quickly knitted some warm woolen underpants for the complaining doll crowd. ;)
Fortunately, those are not complicated to knit and – especially in small sizes – finished in a flash, so I still have enough time for everything else…

So I thought I go ahead and share this easy instructions for knitting woolen dolls underpants today…:

Knitting Pattern: Doll Underpants

You need:

• Wool (I used Drops “Merino Extra Fine” Uni, in 01 nature)
• Knittingneedles, size 3,5 – 4
• Scissors
• Woolneedle

Instructions:

You will not need any special technique, only knit and purl. Casting on and off and to be able to knit increases and decreases.
The pattern can easily be changed after your own taste and eg be knitted in stockinette stitch.
The number of cast on stitches should best be checked on the dolls belly itself.
Depending on the yarn thickness or waist circumference you should cast on correspondingly more or less stitches.

Here are the instructions for a 30 cm doll:

1.
Cast on 20 stitches.
(The cast on row should fit the front of the dolls belly.)

2.
Knit 6 rows in rib pattern: *knit 2, purl 2*
(This will be the belly band)
=You now have 20 stitches on the needle.

3.
Knit 10 rows in garter stitch.
In the 5th row knit 2 stitches together four times.
So you will have 16 stitches on the needle in the end.

4.
Now knit 12 rows for the crotch in garter stitch.
Again knit 2 stitches together four times. This will leave you with only 8 stitches left on the needle.

Now you start knitting the backside of the undies:

5.
Again knit 10 row in garter stitch.
But this time you will increase the stitches four times. So you will have 16 stitches on the needle.

6.
Finally knit 7 rows in rib pattern again. *knit 2, purl 2*
Again increase the stitches until you have 20 stitches on the needle.

7.
Fold the underpants at the crotch and sew the sides close with a tapestry needle.
Finally weave in all ends.

Finished!

This underpants are flexible at the belly thanks to the rib knitting, so it will fit larger dolls as well. Also the undies have no right or left side and kids can dress and undress the dolls with those themselves easily.
